DB Cargo, diesel-electric locomotive 232 573-6, trafic red livery, ep. V-VI,
with sound decoder, N scale.
The Class 232 diesel locomotives are among the best-known representatives of the so-called “Ludmilla” family, originally built in the Soviet Union for the Deutsche Reichsbahn of the former GDR. With their high power output and robust engineering, they were ideally suited to hauling heavy freight and passenger trains. After the rail reform in 1994, numerous locomotives were transferred to Deutsche Bahn AG, where they continued in freight service with DB Cargo. Many units received the characteristic traffic red livery and were deployed on heavy transfer, local freight, and mainline services throughout Germany.
Even today, several Class 232 locomotives remain in active service with DB Cargo, primarily on non-electrified routes, where their reliability and tractive effort are still highly valued.
